Abhijeet Bhattacharya recalls industry politics and insults after winning award for 'Yes Boss'

Veteran singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, known for his powerful vocals and memorable songs, and has sung over 6,000 songs in more than 1,000 films across various languages. He recently opened up about the challenges he faced in his early career. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bhattacharya shared his experiences of feeling humiliated by music directors who refused to let him sing for Shah Rukh Khan films, even after he won an award for his song in the 1997 film "Yes Boss."

He revealed that despite being close to certain music directors, they would avoid giving him a chance to sing for Shah Rukh Khan films. He said, "It has happened a lot with me. When music directors would get a Shah Rukh Khan film, they wouldn't give me a chance to sing, no matter how close I was to them." The singer also recounted the aftermath of winning an award for his song in "Yes Boss." He explained that while the film was not a blockbuster, his song stood out among the hits from films like "Border," "Pardes," and "Dil To Pagal Hai." However, many music directors openly told him that they wouldn't let him sing their songs after that.


"When I won an award for my song in Yes Boss, mine was the only non-blockbuster song among all the blockbuster tracks from films like Border, Pardes and Dil To Pagal Hai… After that, many music directors would openly tell me that they won't give their song to me," Bhattacharya shared.

The revelation sheds light on the cutthroat nature of the music industry and the politics that artists often face. Bhattacharya's experiences highlight the challenges of maintaining a successful career in the face of jealousy, competition, and personal biases.
