Adipurush, Raavan and more: These movies, inspired from Indian mythology and history will make for an interesting watch

Mythology and Indian cinema go hand-in-hand. For decades, we have seen Gods and Goddesses come alive on screen. Over the years, makers have either chosen to retell an epic tale or tweaked it to suit a modern narrative, with actors playing roles inspired by some mythological characters. Speaking about this genre, here are some epic tales that have or will grace our silver screens soon...

2/6

Adipurush

Om Raut's magnum opus Adipurush unveiled its new poster on the occasion of Ram Navami yesterday. Featuring Prabhas as Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, Sunny Singh as Laxman, and Devdatta Nage as Bajrang, the poster shows the actors in a traditional avatar. The multilingual mythological drama, which is being touted as a film celebrating "the victory of good over evil", is an on-screen adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana. Apart from the lead cast, it stars Saif Ali Khan as the lead antagonist Ravana, the King of Lanka. The movie will hit screens on June 16 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

3/6

Raavan

This epic adventure, loosely based on the Ramayana, is the story of a dreaded bandit who kidnaps an officer's wife and falls in love with her. Soon the woman too falls in love with him, without realising that she in fact, is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. On the other hand, the woman's husband starts using this opportunity to his advantage. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie starred real-life couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai along with Vikram.

Baahubali: The Beginning

S. S. Rajamouli's magnum opus takes several references from the Ramayana. The epic tale is about a young boy Shivudu who falls in love with a brave warrior woman. While he tries to win her over, he learns about the conflict-ridden past of his family and his true legacy. The movie, which turned out to one of the biggest hits in the country, had an ensemble cast that included Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamanna Bhatia, Rana Daggubati, Ramya Krishnan and others.

5/6

Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva

Ayan Mukerji's astra verse tale, that ended Bollywood's dry run at the BO last year is the story of Shiva, who unknown to him, is the protector of the most powerful weapon in the world. Along with his lady love Isha, Shiva must stop some evil forces from getting their hands on the weapon and destroying the world. Starring real-life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt along with Amitabh Bachchan, the movie was a blockbuster and will soon be out with a sequel.

6/6

Ram Setu

The movie takes a closer look at the history of the bridge that connects India to Sri Lanka, said to have been constructed by Lord Rama when he waged war against Ravana to win back his wife Sita. Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead, the story is about an atheist archaeologist, who takes on a project to dismiss the existence of such a bridge, however, ends up finding enough evidence to turn him into a believer. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the movie also starred Nushrratt Bharuccha and Jacqueline Fernandez.

What? Ravaan and Ram Setu are based on mythology? Pious, Indoctrinated lunatics will throw a fit and demonstrate unhinged behavior. Their fascist sentiments are hurt
