Delhi Police has added to the chatter around Virat Kohli's recent controversy involving actress Avneet Kaur
The Police social media handles, which have been gaining fans for their witty posts on trending and other current topics, dropped a seemingly routine PSA on Instagram, reminding citizens to obey traffic laws — but did so in a manner that had Kohli fans presuming that it was a swing at the cricketer. The post read, "We would like to clarify that while checking our cameras, it appears the algorithm has registered many interactions. It aims to punish the speeders and traffic rule violators. We request that no unnecessary speeding and stunts be done on public roads. Challans will be issued to the violators. Thank you for your understanding."
Framed around "algorithms" netizens were quick to link the post to the Indian cricketer's clarification regarding his “like” on Kaur's post that briefly set the internet ablaze.
In his post, Kohli wrote, "I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding."
The resemblance wasn’t lost on fans and meme-makers alike. “Even Delhi Police couldn’t resist a jab at the algorithm,” one user commented. Another noted, “They can’t even troll back — it’s from the official account!”
This post by the police comes shortly after singer Rahul Vaidya jumped into the conversation with a video seemingly mocking Kohli’s explanation in his statement. He joked "I want to say that going forward, the algorithm might like many photos which I didn't do. So, the girls), please don't do PR around it because it is not my mistake. It is Instagram's mistake, okay?"
Later, Vaidya claimed Kohli had blocked him on the platform and quipped that perhaps it was the same "Instagram algorithm" that may have caused it.
Meanwhile, on the personal front, Avneet found herself romantically linked to cricketer Shubman Gill. The two were rumoured to be dating under the radar after the beauty was spotted at a cricket match.
