Akshay Kumar-R Madhavan-Ananya Panday starrer titled Shankara; project to be backed by Karan Johar: report
Akshay Kumar is currently gearing up for the release of "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan," marking his first film release of 2024. Known for his frequent movie releases each year, Akshay Kumar's upcoming projects include the highly anticipated C Sankaran Nair biopic. Reports indicate that the period drama, which commenced filming last year, has been titled "The Untold Story of C Sankaran Nair," also known as "Shankara."
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film is indeed being titled 'Shankara.' The report further said that after extensive discussions, it was unanimously agreed that 'Shankara' is fitting for this movie and has a broad appeal across India. This title will be officially announced when the next press release or promotional material for the film is revealed by the makers.
Starring Akshay Kumar alongside R Madhavan and Ananya Panday, "Shankara" narrates the lawyer’s relentless fight against the British Raj to expose Punjab Lieutenant Governor Michael O’Dwyer’s involvement in the tragic 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film is based on the book ‘The Case That Shook The Empire,’ authored by Chettur Sankaran Nair’s great-grandson Raghu Palat and his wife Pushpa Palat.
During the film's announcement, Karan Johar expressed his excitement, stating, “I am extremely excited and honored to support a film that will unveil the legendary courtroom battle fought by Sankaran Nair against the British Raj, revealing the truth about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Sankaran Nair’s courage ignited the freedom struggle nationwide and stands as a testament to the power of fighting for truth.” "Shankara" will be directed by debutant filmmaker Karan Singh Tyagi.
In the recent past, Akshay had spoken about the spate of flops he has been facing at the BO. At the trailer launch of his recent movie, he said, "We keep on trying for every type of film. I don’t stick to one kind of genre. I keep on jumping from one genre to another, whether there is success or no success, that’s how I have always worked. I’ll keep on doing it, something that is social, something that is good, something in comedy, in action."
