Alia took to her Instagram Stories to post a congratulatory message for Anuparna Roy, who bagged an award in the Orizzonti section at the Venice Film Festival for her film Songs of Forgotten Trees.


Penning a sweet note for the director, Alia wrote, “A huge congratulations to Anuparna Roy for her win at Venice for Songs of Forgotten Trees. What a beautiful moment for Indian cinema.”

The Raazi actress also reposted a story on her account, captioning it, “Historic. Congratulations, @annieroy09.”

Earlier, several celebrities dropped posts praising the filmmaker for her impressive achievement. Even Priyanka Chopra wished her for the same.

The film was presented by director Anurag Kashyap and backed by Bibhanshu Rai, Romil Modi, and Ranjan Singh. It stars Bhushan Shimpi, Ravi Maan, Pritam Pilania, and Lovely Singh.

Reportedly, the story revolves around Thooya, a migrant who dreams of becoming an actress. She eventually finds a housemate who is also a migrant, working as a corporate professional.

On the work front

Alia will next be seen in Love & War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She is also a part of YRF’s spy universe with the film Alpha, alongside Sharvari. The actress was last seen in Jigra, opposite Vedang Raina, which released in theatres last year.
