Ameesha Patel calls Ranbir Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan and Hrithik Roshan the 'last of the superstars' after Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan
Ameesha Patel recently shared her views on the current generation of Bollywood superstars, naming Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, and Kartik Aaryan as the industry's "last of the superstars." She discussed the mounting expectations on actors today and the evolving dynamics of stardom in the Hindi film industry.
In a recent interview with India Today, reflecting on Bollywood’s future, Ameesha remarked, “After Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aamir Khan, Ranbir, Hrithik, and Kartik are definitely carrying the legacy forward, that's it. I feel that's where it might end. They’re the ones truly delivering, and it’s scary to think about what will happen to Bollywood after them.”
She shed light on the immense pressure shouldered by leading stars, stressing how audiences expect every film from a top actor to replicate past successes. She mentioned that when stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, or Hrithik Roshan release a film, there’s an inherent expectation that it should live up to their previous hits. The 'Gadar 2' actress believes that it’s unrealistic to expect every film to be a massive success. According to her, such success is uncommon, and not every movie can be a blockbuster.
The actress also spoke about how this pressure is exacerbated by Bollywood's reliance on a handful of big names. “If the pressure were more evenly distributed across a wider group, it would be easier. But since it’s concentrated on so few, it’s very challenging,” she stated.
While acknowledging these challenges, Ameesha praised emerging talents in the industry for making significant strides. She called Kartik ‘fabulous’ and acknowledged that Ayushmann Khurrana has done some outstanding work. While commenting on Rajkummar Rao’s exceptional skill in breaking the mould to become a mainstream hero, she also pointed out Shraddha Kapoor’s great work.
Ameesha further praised Ayushmann and Kartik for their bold, unconventional choices in the industry. She highlighted Ayushmann’s daring roles, like playing a bald man and dressing as a woman, emphasizing how he made these decisions work. Similarly, she commended Kartik for consistently delivering successful films. She applauded both actors for their risk-taking and their ability to turn those risks into successes.
Ameesha Patel was last seen in the blockbuster sequel 'Gadar 2'.
