Amrita Rao lost out on Salman Khan's Wanted because of a spiteful manager, reveals her book
The film industry can be an unforgiving place, especially for those artistes who trust easily. Amrita Rao discovered this fact the hard way back in 2007. She had a special appearance in the 'Heyy Babyy' title song and had made a successful debut in Telugu films with 'Athidhi' that year. Not to speak of her huge Bollywood successes earlier. But little did Amrita know that an even better opportunity had been stolen from her, without her knowledge.
In her book, Couple Of Things, which the 'Vivaah' actress has co-authored with husband RJ Anmol, Amrita recalled an episode from 2007 when she was shocked to find out that she could have been Salman Khan's co-star, if not for a betrayal.
ETimes produces an excerpt from Couple Of Things, where Amrita recalled the shocking incident:
"2007 started off on a roll. I was being signed on for interesting projects, one of them being Shyam Benegal's Welcome To Sajjanpur. But I started to feel that my manager appointed by Tips Films in 2002, who I was still carrying along, wasn't ideal for my career growth anymore. I decided to part ways with him and find a more senior and established manager who could find better opportunities, help me network well, and improve my PR activities with the media and production houses!
I called my manager to my house for a meeting, reasoned out my intentions politely, and parted ways amicably. Despite being very young, I handled the entire situation very gracefully and cordially all alone. A few months later, I was in Hyderabad shooting for a Telugu film with south superstar Mahesh Babu. One evening back from the shoot in the lobby of my hotel Taj Banjara, I bumped into a production guy who worked closely with Mr. Boney Kapoor.
"Oh, hi Amrita! How are you doing?" he said. "If only our dates hadn't clashed, you would be shooting for us with Salman Khan for 'Wanted", he added. I looked at him blankly. "When was I approached for Wanted?" I asked, confused.
"Oh of course you were, I had called your manager and he said your dates were impossible to match," he replied. My heart broke into pieces and I was completely
shattered.
"I was never informed by him about such a huge offer, if only I knew, I'd have definitely worked out the dates for you," I said, reeling from the shock! Instead of taking our separation in his stride, my ex-manager had decided to give me this vengeful parting gift!"
It would have been really interesting to see Amrita team up with Salman in the action hit 'Wanted'. Pity it didn't turn out that way.
