Amyra Dastur celebrates birthday at home, with loved ones

lockdown

, it was a low-key affair for Amyra Dastur, too. The actress, who turned a year younger on May 7, had a mini celebration at home, with her family and domestic staff. She later took to Instagram to post a picture with all her loved ones and captioned it, “Family ♥️ Here’s to the amazing people who’ve looked after me and helped me grow into the person I am today. Grateful to be locked down and celebrating with them!”

Recently, the actress talked to Bombay Times about rising incidents of domestic violence during the lockdown. She said, “I feel strongly about domestic violence because I’ve been brought up by a strong mother and have strong sisters who’ve helped abused women. In Khandala, my mother has only employed women who’s husbands are abusive alcoholics. During my early years I’ve faced situations where I’ve genuinely felt helpless and alone. What really hurt me was when people said - 'This is India, you won’t be able to change their mentality.' That’s what hit me the hardest that such things have been normalised for women. That mentality needs to change and it will change! Maybe not now, but slowly and gradually women are realising their worth.”

On the work front, Amyra, who made her Bollywood debut with ‘Issaq’, was last seen in the Hindi film, ‘Made In China’. The actress’ line-up includes two Tamil films and a Hindi film, ‘
