Anup Jalota is grief stricken as he lost a close friend today in the form of Pankaj Udhas. The celebrated Gazal singer passed away on February 26, 2024. Pankaj Udhas had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai since the past 10 days. “I didn't know he was sick. It's been a long time since,” expressed Anup Jalota.

Expressing grief, he added, “We used to plan together how to encourage new singers. He used to always help other artists and would financially support many new budding talents. It is very heart-breaking.” The hospital where he was admitted confirmed that Panjah Udhas passed away at 11.01am on February 26, owning to prolonged illness. His doctor, Pratit Samdani stated, "This is not only a personal loss, but the whole nation has lost a prolific singer and a great human being."


Paying an ode to the celebrated singer, Mahesh Bhatt shared, “In tribute to the late Pankaj Udhas, I fondly recall his timeless rendition of the iconic song “Chitti Aayi Hai” from my film “Naam.” Authored by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Pankaj Udhas’ soulful voice and heartwarming performance immortalized the longing of millions who are away from their homes. His voice carried a sense of longing and nostalgia, leaving an indelible mark on audiences worldwide.”
