Apoorva Mukhija breaks silence after vacating Mumbai flat post India’s Got Latent controversy: 'She lost her house, her show, her self-esteem... but not hope'
Content creator Apoorva Mukhija, better known online as The Rebel Kid, has announced a deeply personal new series titled Finding Happiness Again, inspired by her struggles following the backlash to the India’s Got Latent controversy.
Apoorva reveals she went on 'side quests' to rediscover joy
Taking to Instagram, Apoorva shared that she will soon release a series of videos chronicling her journey of healing and growth. She revealed that after spending weeks sulking, she embarked on several “side quests” to feel happy again. Each experience, she said, taught her a valuable lesson that she now wishes to share with her audience.
The announcement video features a narrator recounting how the situation spiralled for Apoorva, “She would lose her house, her show, a lot of brand deals and her self-esteem… The one thing she never lost was hope. Hope to one day be happy again."
The video also revealed the title of the upcoming series Finding Happiness Again and explained how Apoorva decided to document her journey while everything around her was “falling apart.”
She captioned the video, "Maut me bhi masti nahi ruki The voice is @ayushwadhwa who has also been my biggest cheerleader and inspiration in this game of life."
Just days before the announcement, Apoorva posted an emotional Instagram Story that showed her switching off the lights in her now-empty living room, strongly indicating she was vacating her Mumbai apartment. This visual moment, now confirmed by her new video, marked a symbolic end to a turbulent chapter in her life.
India’s Got Latent controversy: What happened?
The controversy erupted after a disturbing clip from the reality show India’s Got Latent went viral. In the video, panellist Ranveer Allahbadia (aka BeerBiceps) asked a highly inappropriate question to fellow panellist Samay Raina, “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join once to stop it forever?"
The question sparked intense public outrage, with netizens slamming Allahbadia and criticising the rest of the panel, including Apoorva and Ashish Chanchlani, for not strongly condemning the moment in real time.
Struggling with mental health, supported by friends
In the days that followed, Apoorva found herself at the receiving end of severe online abuse. She received death threats, acid attack threats, and chilling messages from people claiming to know her location. Her legal and management team advised her to shift temporarily to a friend’s residence for safety.
Previously, Apoorva had opened up about the toll the situation took on her mental health through a YouTube vlog, “Every single day that I would wake up, something new would be happening. I would have sleep paralysis because I would be scared.”
She credited her close circle of friends for helping her through the darkest moments, adding, “My friends would talk to me every day, all the time, to say everything will be fine.”
