Asha Parekh shares the story behind her marriage to Shammi Kapoor: 'His girlfriend got very upset'
Veteran actress Asha Parekh recently appeared on The Invincibles Season 2, hosted by Arbaaz Khan. During the candid conversation, she reminisced about a prank that led to rumours of her marriage to Shammi Kapoor.
Asha Parekh explained, "We were shooting in Mahabaleshwar, and I don't know what got into Om Prakash ji, but he said that the two of us were married. Then there was a party at Naseer Hussain's place, and at that time, everyone was talking and started whispering. And then Shammi ji said, 'Yes, we are married.' Our colleague Devyani ji was sitting there and overheard, thinking it was true. I didn't know any of this was happening. Shammi ji told me not to say anything, and I agreed. He was playing a prank, and my father left."
The prank had unintended consequences. She continued, "Everyone said he left because we got married. So he replied, 'No, her mother was very shocked, that's why he went home.' But at that time, Shammi was having an affair with someone, so that person got very upset."
Asha Parekh and Shammi Kapoor co-starred in several films, including Teesri Manzil, Pagla Kahin Ka, Dil Deke Dekho and Jawan Mohabbat. Shammi Kapoor was married to Geeta Bali until her death in 1965 and later married Neila Devi Gohil in 1969. Asha Parekh, on the other hand, remained single.
