Ashoke Pandit strongly condemns Ranveer Allahbadia’s vulgar remark on India's Got Latent, recalls backlash for criticizing All India Bakchod: 'Same people who attacked me are speaking my language'
Filmmaker and social activist Ashoke Pandit has strongly condemned Ranveer Allahbadia's controversial remark on parents' intimacy during his appearance on Samay Raina's show India’s Got Latent. In a heartfelt video statement, Ashoke Pandit recalled how he was criticized for speaking out against All India Bakchod (AIB) and its vulgar content.
Sharing the video on Instagram, he wrote, "A heartfelt reaction to the Ranveer Allahbadia vulgar joke controversy. Almost a decade ago, in the name of roasting, a show called AIB Bakc**d had happened, and it was in very bad taste. Not only did it belittle women's dignity, but the standard of jokes was pure crass. It was a new low when this show was widely accepted, and I was trolled for raising my voice against this vulgarity. Today, when an Allahbadia does it, the entire society has risen to condemn this act. The hypocrisy of before and after a decade has made me react to this controversy."
In the video, he began, "Hello friends, a few years ago, there was a show on YouTube called All India Bakchod, and bigwigs of the industry participated in it. There were abuses and all kinds of things. I reacted as a common human being because I felt it was my duty to speak out against the vulgarity on that show. I believed our country was not ready for this level of indecency, and I found it strange that people were laughing at such performances.

I was targeted for condemning it back then, just as people are condemning Ranveer Allahbadia today. I am not supporting him, I condemn him, just as I condemned AIB. This vulgarity is not acceptable in the name of freedom of speech. However, at that time, I was labeled old-fashioned and was lectured about freedom of expression. Today, the same people who attacked me are speaking my language. What changed?"
Ashoke Pandit went on to highlight how media houses had grilled him about his objection to AIB but are now actively covering the controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia. He also credited Aamir Khan for being one of the few people in the industry who supported him at the time. "Aamir Khan called me, spoke to me, and later condemned AIB in a college event. He said he personally found their jokes offensive and that cursing repeatedly does not make something funny," Pandit recalled.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have launched an investigation into the matter after legal notices were issued against the show. FIRs have been filed in both Maharashtra and Assam against India’s Got Latent, indicating that the controversy is far from over.
