Athiya Shetty steps away from Bollywood to embrace motherhood
After nearly a decade in the Hindi film industry, Athiya Shetty has reportedly chosen to step away from acting, opting to prioritize motherhood and a more private life. Her career, though relatively brief, displayed a steady progression marked by diverse roles and a graceful screen presence.
Father Suniel Shetty Confirms Her DepartureThe news of Athiya Shetty's departure from Bollywood was confirmed by her father, actor Suniel Shetty. He shared her decision, stating, "She said, ‘Baba, I don’t want to,’ and she just left. And that’s what I salute her for, saying, ‘I’m not interested. I don’t want to do films.’ After Motichoor Chaknachoor, a lot came her way, but she said, ‘I don’t want to. I’m comfortable, you know’?” He added that Athiya's choice was driven by a desire to spend more time with her daughter and embrace a life away from the public glare.
Career Highlights: From Debut to Critically Noted RolesAthiya Shetty made her acting debut in 2015 with Hero, produced by Salman Khan, where she starred opposite Sooraj Pancholi as Radha Mathur. While the film received mixed reviews, the song "O Khuda," featuring her, became popular. In 2017, she ventured into comedy with Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan, playing Binkle Sandhu. The film performed well at the box office, allowing Athiya to showcase her comedic timing alongside experienced actors like Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor. Her most critically acclaimed role came in 2019 with Motichoor Chaknachoor, opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui, where she delivered a grounded performance as Anita Awasthi, a small-town girl with aspirations of settling abroad. Despite the film's lukewarm box office response, her portrayal was praised for its authenticity and restraint.
Beyond Films: Music Videos and Quiet FarewellOutside of her film roles, Athiya also featured in the hit dance track "Tere Naal Nachna" in 2018, produced by Bhushan Kumar, where her confident screen presence and graceful moves contributed to her growing popularity. Despite her limited filmography, Athiya carved out a niche for herself with grace and dignity. As she now steps away from acting, she leaves behind a modest yet memorable career, characterized by selective roles, iconic songs, and a dignified exit from the Hindi film industry.
