Bollywood Actors Who Rejected Hollywood Movies

While many Bollywood stars dream of making it big in Hollywood, not everyone jumps at the opportunity. Several top Bollywood actors have turned down major roles in Hollywood films, often due to scheduling conflicts, personal choices, or a strong commitment to their work in India. From Shah Rukh Khan to Deepika Padukone, these stars chose to focus on their Bollywood careers despite lucrative offers from international filmmakers.

Irrfan Khan

The late Irrfan Khan was offered a significant role in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic 'Interstellar'. Nolan had considered him for the part of Dr. Mann, which eventually went to Matt Damon. However, Irrfan had scheduling conflicts as he was filming 'The Lunchbox' and D-Day at the time, making it impossible for him to accommodate Interstellar. While he missed the chance to work with Nolan, Irrfan later made a mark in Hollywood with films like Life of Pi, Jurassic World, and Inferno. His contribution to both Indian and global cinema remains unforgettable.

Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan, one of Bollywood’s most talented actors, was offered a role in 'The Pink Panther 2' alongside Steve Martin and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He was approached for the role of Vincent, but Hrithik declined the offer. Reports suggest that he turned it down because he wasn’t satisfied with the depth of the character and wanted to focus on his Bollywood career instead. The role eventually went to Bollywood’s Ranvir Shorey. Despite rejecting Hollywood projects, Hrithik remains a sought-after actor in Indian cinema, with many international filmmakers still keen on casting him.

4/6

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone was offered a role opposite Vin Diesel in 'Fast & Furious 7'(2015). Despite being excited about the project, she turned it down because she was already committed to Bollywood films like 'Ram-Leela' at the time. Her packed schedule didn't allow her to fly back and forth between India and the US. Later, she did make her Hollywood debut with 'xXx: Return of Xander Cage'(2017), but she often emphasized that balancing Bollywood and Hollywood projects was challenging.

5/6

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, known for her global appeal, was offered a role opposite Brad Pitt in 'Troy.' The film’s director, Wolfgang Petersen, wanted her to play Briseis, a key character in the epic war drama. However, Aishwarya declined the offer due to concerns over intimate scenes, which she was not comfortable performing at that time. The role eventually went to Rose Byrne. Despite turning down the opportunity, Aishwarya later made her Hollywood debut in 'The Mistress of Spices' (2005) and appeared in 'The Pink Panther 2' (2009).

6/6

Shah Rukh Khan

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was offered the role of the game show host in 'Slumdog Millionaire,' which later went to Anil Kapoor. Director Danny Boyle initially approached Khan for the part, but he turned it down because he felt the role didn’t suit him. Khan, who had hosted the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, believed the character might have a negative portrayal. Despite rejecting the offer, Slumdog Millionaire became a global hit, winning multiple Academy Awards, while Shah Rukh continued focusing on his Bollywood projects.
