Boney Kapoor celebrates wife Sridevi's 62nd birth anniversary; confesses, 'The few words she spoke in broken Hindi and English touched me, moved me' — Read their love story timeline

The legendary Sridevi would have turned 62 today. However, her untimely passing away will always be considered the black day of the Indian film industry. Today on her 62nd birth anniversary, her husband, Boney Kapoor, fondly shared an adorable post calling her 26. He wrote, "Yesssss, you are not 62 today. You are 26. Happy birthday; we are still reliving all your happy birthdays." Let's look at the timeline for their love story, from Boney Kapoor first seeing her on screen to their memorable meeting on the sets of 'Mr. India,' leading to a loving marriage and a family legacy.

When Boney first saw Sridevi

During the India Today Woman Summit in 2013, Boney Kapoor shared that he saw Sridevi for the first time on the large screen in the late 1970s in a Tamil film. By the early 1980s, she had taken Bollywood by storm with hits like 'Sadma' and 'Himmatwala.' Even before actually meeting her, Boney held her in high regard personally and professionally, and she had made an impression on him long before they met as an individual.

Meeting on 'Mr India' sets

Their first actual meeting happened through Boney's brother, Anil Kapoor, on a film set. Initially, their interaction was strictly professional, but destiny soon aligned when Boney cast Sridevi in the 1987 blockbuster 'Mr. India.' The film was not only a big hit in the Indian cinema but also brought them closer. Despite being married to Mona Shourie Kapoor and a father to Arjun and Anshula, he found himself falling deeply in love with her during the film's making. Boney went out of his way to make her feel special, giving her the best makeup room and ensuring her costumes and on-set comfort were unmatched. As he later revealed, he catered to her every wish, always ready with whatever she needed. "When I met her, it was almost like a dream come true. The few words she spoke in broken Hindi and broken English touched me, moved me, and made me curious to know her more," he said during the India Today Woman Summit.

The love confession

Boney’s feelings for Sridevi grew so strong that he even confessed them to his then-wife, Mona. Eventually, Boney confessed his love to Sridevi, but it didn't go as planned. When he initially shared his feelings, it was met with anger, and the 'Mom' actress distanced herself completely. For nearly six to eight months, she stopped speaking to him altogether. It was a painful phase for Boney, but he didn't let the silence shake his feelings. Instead, he chose to remain patient, giving her space while quietly staying in her corner as a friend and well-wisher. Even after 'Mr. India' wrapped up, Boney's pursuit didn't end. When Sridevi travelled to Switzerland to shoot Yash Chopra's romantic drama Chandni, Boney followed her there. He later shared that this was the moment she realized his feelings were genuine and not just a fleeting attraction.

A private wedding and a growing family

Boney Kapoor and Sridevi tied the knot in June 1996, keeping their marriage private until it became public in January 1997. The couple went on to welcome two daughters, Janhvi in 1997 and Khushi in 2000. Both girls inherited their mother's love for cinema and have pursued acting careers in Hindi films, carrying forward Sridevi's legacy while enjoying the unwavering support of their father. Janhvi is already a popular and promising actress in Hindi films, gaining appreciation for her performances with the debut film 'Dhadak.' Meanwhile, Khushi, though younger, also embraces the world of entertainment with her debut in 'The Archies' and has been in other films like 'Nadaaniyan' and 'Loveyapa.'
