The director has alleged that his ex-partners registered his original screenplay with the Screen Writers Association and were presenting it to various production companies, falsely asserting it as their own work. Following this, Shaad Ali approached a Mumbai court, seeking that the cops should lodge a case against his two former associates, reports India Today.

The Saathiya director’s lawyer told the court that Shaad worked on the script for years and had shared it with the two others, since they reportedly promised to improvise it. The report also stated that the filmmaker paid a sum of Rs 90, 000 to each of them, despite not being obligated to make any payments. When Shaad Ali reportedly confronted his former associates over the alleged theft of his script, the duo instead threatened him and demanded Rs 5 crore to "amicably settle the issue". The court stated that an order will be passed on Ali's complaint on October 12.

Shaad Ali's last directorial was Mister Mummy, starring Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza. The film narrated the journey of a man who becomes pregnant. Mister Mummy opened to a poor response at the box office, upon its release in November 2022.
