Celina Jaitly’s brother’s UAE detention case: Sister-in-law’s lawyer claims actress initially DID NOT offer any ‘visible’ help, says she ‘should have consulted us’
Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has been juggling multiple legal battles in recent months. From her domestic violence case against husband Peter Haag to fighting for her brother Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in the UAE since September 2024.
While the Delhi High Court recently stepped in to facilitate communication with her brother, a fresh twist has emerged, revealing a rift between Celina and her sister-in-law, Charul Jaitly.
However, even as the actress praised the move, a new tension has arisen between Celina and her sister-in-law, Charul Jaitly.
He added that Charul had approached the MEA and received consular access for Vikrant. Authorities had informed her that “there were some national security issues and cyber issues in respect of some different companies with whom Vikrant may have had some dealings...”
Charul had hoped for collaboration, “While Charul was never informed by Celina that she had decided to take any legal recourse in this matter, it would have been better if she had consulted Charul... If this was something that was motivated by her genuine concern for her brother, she should have consulted us.”
He added, “We have been told that some investigation is in process for which he is required, and when it is over, we will be able to have a better insight into the disposal of Vikrant.”

Delhi High Court directs communication with brother
Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court directed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure communication between Celina and her brother. The court appointed a nodal officer to coordinate with UAE authorities. Celina welcomed the court’s intervention and shared an emotional note online. However, even as the actress praised the move, a new tension has arisen between Celina and her sister-in-law, Charul Jaitly.
Sister-in-law’s lawyer disputes Celina’s claims
Advocate Sudhanshu Pandey, representing Charul, countered Celina’s statements and questioned the timing of her legal move. Speaking to ANI, he detailed the events leading to Vikrant’s detention and the steps Charul had already taken. “Vikrant was an ex-army officer... In 2016-17, due to family circumstances, he took premature retirement, and since then, he has set up his own work and has been settled in Dubai, where he is working...” Sudhanshu said.He added that Charul had approached the MEA and received consular access for Vikrant. Authorities had informed her that “there were some national security issues and cyber issues in respect of some different companies with whom Vikrant may have had some dealings...”
Family followed protocol during ongoing investigation
Sudhanshu said Charul had waited for clarity on the investigation, which began around “the 6th of September 2023...” All actions were taken following official advice, he emphasised.Celina reportedly did not provide visible help during early days
In a rebuttal to Celina, the lawyer said, “Celina was the one whom she (Charul) contacted first when she got to know about this, and she did not, at that point in time, come forward in any manner to help — at least, any visible help did not come from them.”Charul had hoped for collaboration, “While Charul was never informed by Celina that she had decided to take any legal recourse in this matter, it would have been better if she had consulted Charul... If this was something that was motivated by her genuine concern for her brother, she should have consulted us.”
Family strongly rejects claims of withheld information
Sudhanshu strongly denied that the family had kept Celina in the dark. He revealed, “To say that she is not being given information or that his wife is not giving her information, we actually strongly rebut because there are absolutely no such reasons.”He added, “We have been told that some investigation is in process for which he is required, and when it is over, we will be able to have a better insight into the disposal of Vikrant.”
Court requests fresh report from central authorities
As per reports, Celina’s petition led the court to ask the Centre for a fresh status report. The judges stressed that Major Vikrant must be informed during the next consular visit that his sister hopes to speak with him. The MEA has been tasked with ensuring communication is facilitated swiftly, whether through the TAMM app or any method allowed by UAE authorities. The case is next scheduled for hearing on December 23.Get an chance to win ₹5000 Amazon Voucher by taking part in India's Biggest Habit Index! Take the survey here
