Chitrangda Singh has opened up about how her debut film ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ once came close to getting a follow-up. The film, which remains one of Indian cinema’s most politically charged dramas, launched her career and left a lasting impact on audiences. According to Singh, there was a serious attempt at one point to revisit the world and characters of the film through a sequel that would continue their journeys in a new chapter.
The idea of ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi 2’
In a recent conversation with Variety India, Chitrangda revealed that producer Pritish Nandy was deeply invested in the idea of a continuation titled ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi 2’. The plan, as she recalled, involved director
Sudhir Mishra returning to expand the story from where it originally ended. The intention was to explore what happened to the central characters after the emotional and political upheavals shown in the first film. However, after Nandy’s passing in January 2025, the actress shared that the project now feels uncertain and may not move forward.

Chitrangda Singh's debut that left a mark
In ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, Chitrangda Singh played Geeta Rao, a role that placed her alongside Kay Kay Menon and Shiney Ahuja. Set during the politically turbulent 1970s, the film followed three young individuals navigating love, ideology, and disillusionment.
Their lives intersect against the backdrop of a changing nation, creating a deeply layered narrative that continues to be discussed even years after its release. By the end of the story, Siddharth moves abroad for medical studies, Geeta takes a quieter rural path, and Vikram is left dealing with the consequences of his political involvement and physical injuries.
The actress also spoke about her creative journey beyond her debut, expressing a strong desire to work again with Sudhir Mishra. The duo last collaborated on ‘Inkaar’, a film that addressed workplace relationships and power dynamics. Singh also mentioned her long-standing wish to collaborate with filmmaker
Vishal Bhardwaj, highlighting her interest in working with strong storytellers.
On the professional front, she will next be seen opposite Salman Khan in ‘Maatrubhumi’. The film was earlier planned for an April 2026 release but has now been postponed; the makers have yet to announce a new date.
