Darshan Kumaar recently opened up about the challenges he still faces in landing big-banner films. Despite his acclaimed performances in some hit movies, the actor revealed that producers and directors often ask him to cut his fees.
Getting major projects remains a struggle
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kumaar admitted that getting major projects remains a struggle. He said, "Abhi bhi aapko bade easily kuchh woh ho jaata hai. Abhi bhi yeh hai ki producers kehte hain directors ko ki unko manao, woh bahut charge kar rahe hain — A-listed directors. Aur directors keh rahe hain ki producer, main jitne bade level ki larger-than-life film banana chahta hoon."
(He explained that big stars and top directors usually get what they want. Producers often complain about high fees, but directors say they need such talent to make a big, grand film.)
Challenges compared to A-list stars
Elaborating further, he added, "Woh A-list matlab superstars ke saath kaam kar rahe hain toh theek hai. Lekin agar aapke saath karein, toh unko bolo thoda sa adjust karein. Maine kaha, main yeh baat kaise kar sakta hoon? Aur directors kehte hain ki yaar, producer ko thoda samajhna chahiye. Meri toh fees hai, ya yeh film ka itna budget toh hoga hi hoga. Woh kaise hoga? Toh woh thoda sa abhi bhi jung chalu hai. Even one of my films, jismein maine lead kiya, 400 crore kamaayi. Mujhe lagta hai koi aur hota toh shayad alag hi baat hoti."
(Darshan Kumaar said that working with big stars is easier because producers usually agree to their terms. But when it comes to him, they often ask him to lower his fees, which he finds frustrating. Even with hits films, which he led and which earned around 400 crore, he still faces difficulties negotiating fair pay. Kumaar feels the situation might have been different for someone else.)
When asked why he still faces such challenges despite delivering hits, the actor stated that he still faces problems when it comes to big films.
