Dharmendra's first wife Prakash Kaur was looking for a suitable groom for Hema Malini's daughter Esha Deol before she got married to Bharat Takhtani
Dharmendra got married to Hema Malini in 1980. At that time, he was already married to Prakash Kaur and had four children - Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeeta and Vijeta. Dharmendra had married Prakash when he was still in Punjab and had not even moved to Mumbai or become an actor. When Dharmendra married Hema, she stayed separately and he would often visit her. But he always stayed with Prakash and his first family. Hema and Dharmendra had two daughters - Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
While the equation between both the families has always been inside closed doors, one often sees Esha gushing over her brothers Sunny and Bobby. The siblings now share a great rapport. While one is not aware of how Prakash and Hema felt for each other, in Dharmendra's biography penned by Rajiv Vijayakar, the author had mentioned that Prakash always cared about Dharmendra's other family.
In this biography titled, 'Dharmendra: Not Just a He-man', Rajiv described Prakash Kaur as a woman who looked radiantly handsome and content. He also said called her an "extraordinary homemaker, who had allowed Dharmendra every peace, progress and support by being a solid pillar in his life.”
The author further mentioned that he gauged that about Prakash in his short meeting with her. But he was left surprised when Dharmendra told him that Prakash cared for his other family. The author wrote in the biography, "However, improbable it may seem to the layman, it is absolutely believable that Dharmendra had once told me, ‘Prakash is also looking for a suitable groom for Esha (Deol)."
Esha then married Bharat Takhtani in 2012. However, they just for divorced last year after 12 years of marriage.
In this book, he also also quoted another veteran journalist Bharati S Pradhan as she spoke about the time she met Prakash and Dharmendra at the airport. "Dharam was very hospitable and yet there was a subtle Lakshman rekha. We could not get close to his wife or daughters. We never crossed borders, we accepted them. However nice and friendly he was. Once I saw her sitting at the airport, and when I smiled at her, she smiled back. When I came back, she had disappeared, and he said ‘Oh, she was wary because you are there’," she said.
