Dia Mirza: Trolls need to be ignored

Actress Dia Mirza, who had courted controversy and the ire of

online trolls

with a tweet calling for dry Holi, has said that those 'who use this kind of nonsense to dilute and misguide attention from such grave issues need to be ignored'.

In March, Dia had tweeted 'The irony of the times we live in: farmers commit suicide due to drought and people waste water to 'play' #Holi. Go ahead call me anti-Hindu,' which had earned her backlash and abuse from a number of tweeters and online trolls.



The actress, who made her debut on TV with the show 'titled Ganga - The Soul of India' told The Hindu, 'The problems that we are facing today are much larger than you and I. It [attacks and trolls] is going to increase; people who use this kind of nonsense to dilute and misguide attention from such grave issues need to be ignored.'

Coincidentally, the show she is starring in talks about

water conservation

, a cause for which Dia has campaigned actively. When asked if she took up the show with cause in mind, the actress said, 'When they came to me with the project, I asked them if they have written it keeping me in mind.'

Elaborating on the need to look for long-term solutions to the drought problem in Maharashtra, Dia said, 'We need to see what our administrative bodies are doing to reduce effects of such calamities. Sending water tankers is a quick fix but we need to look at long term solutions.'
