Currently based in the US, Bangladeshi-American author Sharbari Ahmed was one of the writers of Priyanka Chopra's much-talked-about 'Quantico' show. After the Orlando attacks, Ahmed asked if '

Omar Mateen

' had handed over 'Donald his trump card where

Islamophobia

Speaking to TOI Ahmed said, 'I am so saddened by this and those poor people, relaxing, enjoying themselves on a summer night. They were trapped. They didn't have a chance.'

Father of Orlando shooter hosted TV show, was critical of Pakistan and ISI

Ahmed woke up early on Sunday morning and saw the news footage of the shooting. Her very first thought was: 'please don't let it be a Muslim'. 'This is how so many of us feel now in the US. Whenever something violent happens, this is the first thought,' she said.

Besides the mindless loss of innocent lives, Ahmed said this whole incident can have a 'harsh' impact on the Muslim community. 'It further fuels the bigoted agenda of people like Trump and his supporters, some of whom act out their hatred. Just the day before a man threw bacon at a mosque. Earlier a woman had her hijab torn off her head,' she said.

Being a person of Muslim descent, she now intends to 'try and create dialogue' and 'bridge gaps'. 'I will try to do it as much as possible and anywhere I can with what skills I have namely as a writer and teacher,' she said.
