Ranveer Singh has emerged as one of the most biggest stars this year, riding high on the back-to-back success of the Dhurandhar franchise. Adding to the buzz, the actor has now surprised fans by sharing screen space for the first time with his father-in-law, former badminton legend Prakash Padukone, in a new advertisement. While the commercial is packed with clever references to Ranveer’s personal life, many viewers believe it also subtly mocks YouTuber Dhruv Rathee.
This ad features Ranveer explaining to Prakash how the app can be used for payments across a range of places, from toy stores and gyms to theatres. In one particular scene set inside a cinema hall, a poster of Ranveer appears in the background with the title Bavandar: The Tornado. This detail quickly caught the attention of fans, who linked it to Rathee’s earlier videos where he criticised Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge using a fictional film titled “Operation Bhavandar.” In those videos, the YouTuber had labelled the films as “propaganda” aligned with the ruling party.
Social media users were quick to react. One fan wrote, “Never mess with Hamza.” Another commented, “This is so meta joke… Bhavandar…” while a third added, “Ranveer Singh in his latest ad roasted Dhruv Rathee’s Bhavandar which he made for criticising Dhurandhar. Peak detailing by Ranveer…..”
Beyond the perceived dig, fans also noticed several thoughtful touches in the ad. A scene featuring Ranveer and Prakash at a gentlemen’s club with badminton rackets pays tribute to Padukone’s illustrious career. In another moment, Ranveer affectionately calls him “Pappa,” mirroring how Deepika Padukone addresses her father. The commercial also includes a playful scene at an ice cream shop, where Ranveer holds a colourful unicorn—seen by many as a sweet nod to him being a girl dad.
