Did Shoaib Malik pay Rs 15 crore alimony to his alleged FIRST wife Ayesha Siddiqui? Here's what we know
Shoaib Malik often makes headlines for his skills. However, his personal life has also drawn attention, especially his marriages. His alleged first wife was Ayesha Siddiqui.
The Telephonic Nikah and Shoaib’s Revelation
Reports suggest that in 2001, Ayesha, a fan, called Shoaib, and they later had a telephonic nikah. Shoaib himself once shared these details. There were also reports that he had to pay a large alimony amount after their divorce.
Ayesha’s Identity and Shoaib’s Discovery
According to a story published in Bollywoodshaadis.com, Shoaib once shared that after talking to Ayesha over the phone, they became close and formed a strong bond. He even told his parents about her. Ayesha claimed she lived in Saudi Arabia and sent Shoaib some photos. However, whenever he wanted to meet, she avoided it. Later, she reportedly pressured him into a phone nikah. In 2005, Shoaib discovered that the photos he had received and the person he was speaking to were different. Ayesha allegedly admitted this but begged him not to reveal the real woman's identity. Eventually, they got divorced.
In 2010, Shoaib Malik considered taking legal action against Ayesha Siddiqui’s family for defamation. His lawyer stated that false allegations had damaged Shoaib’s reputation. The controversy arose over Ayesha’s claims of being Shoaib’s first wife, which he initially denied. The issue was later resolved through a divorce settlement.
The Reality of the Divorce Settlement
There were reports that Shoaib Malik paid Rs. 15 crore as alimony to Ayesha Siddiqui. Some sources claimed her family received Rs. 12 crore, while Rs. 3 crore covered other expenses. Though unconfirmed, lawyer Shiraj Sareen Khan, who represented Ayesha, demanded 10 percent of the amount if true, raising doubts about the actual settlement.
In reality, Ayesha received only Rs. 5,000 per month for three months as mehr during the Iddat period, as per Shariat law. Abid Rasool Khan, who mediated the divorce settlement, clarified in an interview with NDTV that she was given just Rs. 15,000, which she later donated. He dismissed the reports of a Rs. 15 crore alimony, stating that such claims were baseless and that negotiators felt sidelined after the settlement. He also criticized attempts to extort money through false rumors.
A report in Mumbai Mirror stated that Shoaib Malik was initially hesitant to sign the divorce papers. However, he was eventually persuaded that since he had married Ayesha as per the nikaahnama, it was necessary to proceed with the divorce in accordance with the same terms.
