Did you know R Madhavan was supposed to play the lead in ‘Ghajini’?

R Madhavan is surely one of the most talented actors in the film industry who has breathed life into several memorable characters. Earlier the actor revealed that he was supposed to play the lead role in the Tamil film ‘Ghajini’.

According to Economic Times, R Madhavan revealed that he was the first choice to play the lead role in the Suriya starrer ‘Ghajini’. Citing the reason that he was not impressed with the second half, R Madhavan walked out from the project. Later the role went to Suriya and the movie was remade in Hindi starring Aamir Khan in the lead.


R Madhavan also shared that he told the director AR Murugadoss that he didn’t like the second half of the script for ‘Ghajini’ which was pitched to him. Praising Suriya’s performance in ‘Kaakha Kaakha’, R Madhavan further said that he understood that the lead role in ‘Ghajini’ went to safe hands with the ‘Kanguva’ actor. He further said, “And you truly demonstrated that. The success of Ghajini was significant, and I could see the dedication you (Suriya) put into it. I remember thinking about that six-pack of yours and whether I could achieve something similar. I recall you mentioning that you didn’t eat salt for an entire week, which made me reconsider the choices I was making in my own career. It made me realize I wasn’t doing enough justice to my work. I started following the advice I had shared with you, using you as my inspiration."

Inspired by the veteran director Christopher Nolan’s psychological thriller ‘Memento’, both the Tamil and Hindi versions of ‘Ghajini’ turned out to be superhits.
