Veteran actor Dilip Kumar is doing better now after being admitted to a hospital for kidney- related ailments five days ago, the doctor said today.
Dr Jalil Parkar said Kumar's kidneys are functioning and he is not on dialysis.


The 94-year-old actor was admitted to the city-based

Lilavati Hospital

in suburban Bandra on Wednesday morning for treatment of dehydration and a urinary tract infection. "He is better today. He is not on dialysis, not on ventilator. His kidney functions are improving," Dr Jalil Parkar said

A family friend,

Faisal Farooqui

, also shared an update about Kumar's health on the actor's official Twitter page. "Dilip Saab is doing much better now. Please remember him in your prayers. -FF," he posted.

are caring for Dilip Saab 24x7. -FF." Hospital officials had earlier said because of his age,

Kumar

would be under observation and remain in the ICU for the next two or three days, depending on how his body responds to treatment.

Dilip Kumar rushed to Mumbai hospital
Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on the evening of August 2, 2017 after he suffered dehydration, hospital sources said.
"He was admitted with dehydration. He is stable," Ravishankar, CEO of the facility said.

The superstar was admitted for dehydration and urine infection, according to family members. He will be kept under observation for at least two days.

The antibiotics will be administered to him through an IV drip, for this, he will be accommodated in the ICU. After observation, he will be brought back to his room, where he was originally admitted.

The actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

Born into a Hindko-speaking Peshawari Pashtun family of 12 children, Dilip Kumar was born in Peshawar, now in Pakistan.
Around 1940, Dilip Kumar left home for Pune and he was spotted by Devika Rani, and her husband Himanshu Rai (owners of Bombay Talkies) in Aundh military canteens Pune, following which he was cast in his first film Jwar Bhata in 1944.
Dilip Kumar married actress and beauty queen Saira Banu, who was 22 years younger than him.
Hindi author Bhagwati Charan Varma gave him the screen name Dilip Kumar.
It is believed that Dilip Kumar spoke a number of languages, including Pashto, Hindko, Urdu, Hindi and English.
Dilip Kumar got his breakthrough role with Mehboob Khan's Andaz (1949) in which he starred alongside Raj Kapoor and Nargis.
