Diljit Dosanjh’s 5 most honest confessions that prove he is just like one of us
Some names need no introduction and Diljit Dosanjh is certainly one of them. Risen from Punjab, the artist has brought the Punjabi language to the global map. Today, he is among the most talked about celebrities and enjoys a crazy fandom, yet deep down in his heart he is no different from you and me.
Diljit Dosanjh is one of the unintentionally funny people. He doesn’t need to throw a witty line at you to make you laugh, he can make you giggle with his mere honesty. One of the examples of the same is the time he talks about his childhood dream. On multiple occasions, Diljit Dosanjh has confessed that he dreamt of being this famous. Even on the ‘Koffee With Karan’ couch’ he said, that whenever he used to visit Gurudwara as a kid, he used to pray, “Bhagwan, main kisi ko naa janoon, mujhe sab jaane (Dear God, please make me famous).”
“Mujhe English nai aati”
Generally, people tend to hide their insecurities, but not Diljit Dosanjh. As aforementioned, it is his honesty, which is the most charming part of his personality. Though Diljit is born from the soil of Punjab, he has mastered Hindi for his work. There were hiccups, and this mind to date thinks and speaks in Punjabi before translating to any other language, he still has got the code cracked. However, when it came to English, he didn’t have the same luck. The singer performs internationally but often finds it difficult to speak English. During one of his conversations with Film Companion in 2020, he said, ““Ek hi kami hai mere mein bas, mujhe English nai aati (I have only weakness, my lack of knowledge about the English language).”
“Mujhe nai laga tha ye log film denge”
Though today Diljit Dosanjh has many Hindi successful films under his belt and an interesting line up in the future, there was a time he wasn’t sure he will be given a Bollywood movie by a big banner. During a BBC interview, when Dosanjh was called for ‘Good Newwz’ he was reluctant to go. It is because the same production house talked to him about another movie before ‘Good Newwz’ but he wasn’t the one to sign the dotted lines for the same. Considering this history he said, “Mujhe nai laga tha ye log film denge, main jana nai chahta tha…Unhone audition nai karwaya. Aur kehte to phir main karta bhi nai, kyunki mujhe pehle nai film di, to main pehle hi gussa tha (I was not sure whether they would give me the role, I didn’t want to go. Dharma did not audition me, they gave me the script. Had they asked me to audition, I would not have done the movie, since I was anyway upset with them for backing down on their previous offer).”
“I was born in Punjab, it'll always be a part of me until I die.”
Diljit Dosanjh usually believes in ignoring the trolls; however, once during a conversation with Film Companion, he did react. Responding to the online trolls who keep asking him why he doesn’t spend much time in his birthplace Punjab, Diljit replied - “I don't care about this at all. I was born in Punjab, it'll always be a part of me until I die. Someone said that I don't stay there anymore, but I take Punjab with me wherever I go.”
“I had never imagined that one day, my statue would be installed at Madame Tussauds”
When Diljit Dosanjh is happy, he doesn’t try to mask his excitement. When the actor got the honor of having his own wax statue at the Madame Tussauds, he confessed that it was a moment that he never even imagined in his dreams. Talking to Times of India he said, “It’s a proud moment for me. I had never imagined that one day, my statue would be installed at Madame Tussauds. Now, my Delhi fans can ‘see’ me whenever they want (laughs!).”
