Dolly Singh: Aishwarya's purple lipstick & Sonam's metallic sari were the talk of the town

The Cannes Film Festival, held annually in France, is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. Content creator and actress Dolly Singh made a confident Cannes debut this year and spoke to Bombay Times on various topics including the unrealistic beauty standards set for women.
In a candid chat with Bombay Times, Dolly said “It was my first time at Cannes.I was nervous, anxious at the same time, excited. It’s a big platform and big opportunity. I tend to get in my head and overthink, but I had a blast. I enjoyed it.”
Recounting the Cannes memories growing up, she added, “I remember watching it on news. I remember Aishwarya Rai, Mallika Sherawat, Vidya Balan distinctly. Aishwarya's initial yellow sari moment was iconic, Mallika’s look was risqué and controversial too. I was still a writer until a few years back and we used to do these trend stories. Ash’s purple lipstick was the talk of the town as well as Sonam Kapoor’s metallic sari. That time we didn’t know much about the film festival except for some Bollywood celebs going for this international event. It was a big deal. Now there’s more information about it. As someone who loves fashion, I used to wait for these iconic red carpet looks. I am a big film enthusiast as well and to be able to go to a global film event where I got to see these fabulous films was cool.”
