When Bombay Times was introduced as a supplement along with the main paper, it became a rage amongst all those who subscribed to The Times of India and also among those that dominated the social scene in the city – be it in the field of art, theatre, fashion or literature. Book launches, conventions, parties were in focus. I was in the forefront participating in many events as a compère, moderator, judge, and even walking the ramp for a cause.

Bombay Times and its Page 3 became most people’s morning read. Ads flowed in and its economic stability grew. Soon, photographers clamoured to take a shot of celebrities created by Bombay Times. And I certainly enjoyed being a recognisable face seated in the front rows of gatherings.

BT’s Page 3 even inspired filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar to make a movie on the subject. Over the years, the party culture may have evolved, but the fact remains that it all began here.
