Oscar award-winning costume designer
Bhanu Athaiya passed away in her sleep today at the age of 91, after suffering from a slight fever and cough, likely to be pneumonia, as confirmed by her daughter Radhika.
Speaking about the loss of the legendary designer,
Salman Khan’s designer and stylist,
Ashley Rebello
told ETimes exclusively, “Bhanu Athaiya has been an inspiration and legend. She’s been someone I look up to. We have worked on an international project many years back, and she just had so much knowledge and information that I was overwhelmed by how she would project designs and their execution. Winning an Oscar for the country is something that no other costume designer has done so far. She went international yet she was so down to earth and was one of the most talented people that I know of. Bhanu has done some exquisite work and changed the style file of cinema after joining the film industry.
