Exclusive Interview! Anniversary Special: Palak Muchhal and Mithoon on completing one year of marriage; here’s what they say
After enjoying a work association of nearly 10 years, which also includes Aashiqui 2 album, Palak Muchhal, and Mithoon embarked on a new journey. The singer and the music composer tied the knot on Nov 6, last year, and no it wasn’t a love marriage! It was a rishta proposed by their parents and as they celebrate their first wedding anniversary today, the couple looks back at one year of marital bliss and how the professional equation blossomed into a relationship for life. Read On…
On their first wedding anniversary celebrations
Palak Muchhal: We are marking our first anniversary by recreating our wedding celebrations. We are hosting a party on the same day we hosted our reception last year and that too at the same venue. We are also having other ceremonies like haldi and mehendi ahead of the party.
Mithoon: We also value all the blessings we have from our family and extended family. So, it’s going to be a fun gathering with all the people we love.
Looking back at the one year of married life…
Palak: Before I got married, people around me always said that I came across as the happiest, most jovial, and a satisfied girl they have ever come across. I feel after marriage my happiness has only doubled. The credit goes to my partner who’s extremely loving and caring. We have grown together and evolved together as individuals. So, as I look back, I take the liberty to say that this has been the best year of my life.
Mithoon: We feel extremely grateful for the past year of togetherness and feel excited for the future as well. We have always looked up to the institution of marriage and as we live together we have realised why it is an important sacrament in life.
From work partners to partners for life!
Palak: We have worked together for a decade, but our equation didn’t go beyond being working professionals. In this phase of our relationship, knowing him on a personal level has been a different experience. I feel like he is the kindest person I have ever met. He is very loving and caring. The two of us never got to enjoy the period of courtship (as their marriage was an arranged one proposed by their parents) so it was only after we got married that we grew in love. The year was filledwith so many new moments for us. Like, when I performed at the Royal Albert Hall, London I was so glad to see him come for the show only to support and cheer me up. He knew that if he was there it would mean the world to me. He has only encouraged, motivated, and supported me in many ways.
Mithoon: We have been thorough professionals. Even though we have known each other since a long time and collaborated for work we never interacted beyond 20-25 minutes even when we were recording a song. There was never any other connection beyond work. So, I can’t compare the amount of depth marriage has brought to our relationship. It is a completely different universe, and we are grateful we found each other.
Discovering each other in marriage
Palak: Seeing mom and I get emotional on the bidaai day, he told me that he could see the journey we have had as mother-daughter. He hoped that he would be able to fill that vacuum in my life, where I am able to not miss my mom and only that would make him a successful husband. This is the side I got to explore of his. He is so caring that I feel protected and covered when I am with him. I have always been this protected child in my family and now with him being around, I just feel complete.
Mithoon: The entire world admires Palak for the artist and human being that she is, but the way I have seen her as a homemaker and the amount of time and effort she has put into setting up the house and making it all work as a wife is commendable. Seeing her so committed, and being a meticulous, devoted wife has been a beautiful experience.
Work-life balance
Palak: Keeping a healthy balance between work and family comes naturally to both of us. Marriage brings in new responsibilities. We have this - no work discussion policy, at home. We are working the whole day so whatever time we get together after that we try to cherish every moment and discover each other. We also spend a lot of time traveling with each other.
Mithoon: I can definitely say that Palak is a priority for me right now and that is the most important aspect of my life and when that is well nurtured everything else will bear fruit including my work.
