The news of Bollywood actor
Irrfan Khan’s sudden passing on Wednesday at a hospital in Mumbai sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry. Irrfan, who was last seen in ‘Angrezi Medium’, was admitted for colon infection. He passed away at 53, after a long battle with cancer.
After news of his demise broke, fans and Bollywood celebrities including
Amitabh Bachchan,
Shoojit Sircar,
Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan,
Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Bhumi Pednekar, Shabana Azmi, Paresh Rawal and others took to social media to mourn the demise of the star.
While messages of condolences to his family have been pouring in on social media, Irrfan’s ‘Karwaan’ co-star
Mithila Palkar spoke exclusively to ETimes about the untimely demise of the actor. Mithila is very sad to have lost a fine co-star. Expressing her grief, Mithila shared, "Irfaan Khan was a wonderful actor and a lovely human being. I was privileged to have known him and worked with him in 'Karwaan'. Through my interviews for 'Karwaan', I remember saying working with him was like being in acting school. There was so much to learn. This news has left me saddened and numb. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. May he rest in peace.”
The duo shared screen space in Akarsh Khurrana’s directorial which also starred
Dulquer Salmaan in a key role.
Irrfan’s family issued an official statement a while ago and informed about his last rites. The statement read, “Irrfan was buried at the Versova kabrastan in Mumbai at 3pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced. In presence were his family, close relatives and friends. Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he’s in a better place today. He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss.”
