Farah Khan reveals she had two failed IVF procedures during 'Om Shanti Om' shoot: 'I used to be just crying and crying'
Choreographer turned director Farah Khan married Shirish Kunder in 2004. The couple welcomed triplets (son Czar and daughters Diva and Anya) in 2008 via IVF. In a recent interview, Farah has admitted that she had two failed IVFs before she finally conceived. She also admitted the emotional toll it took on her, while she was shooting for Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Om Shanti Om' that time. Farah made her directorial debut in 2004 with 'Main Hoon Na', post which, she had 'Om Shanti Om' which released in 2007.
She appeared on her close friend Sania Mirza's podcast, 'Serving It Up With Sania' and spoke about her struggle with IVF. She said, "I failed twice in IVF. I used to just be crying and crying. It’s also because of the hormones that are pumped in. I used to cry at the drop of a hat. And I was also shooting Om Shanti Om at the same time."
Farah Khan recently appeared on tennis icon and her close friend Sania Mirza’s ‘Serving It Up with Sania’ podcast, where she talked about her struggles with IVF. The Choreographer-director revealed that she failed IVF twice during the shoot of her movie, Om Shanti Om. Farah mentioned that she was heartbroken during this time and used to cry a lot.
Earlier, Farah Khan had opened up about her journey with infertility and IVF during a podcast with actor Debina Bonnerjee. Speaking about it, she said, “Pehle toh main bolungi late pregnancy kyuki meri shaadi hi late hui. I was 40 years old when I got married. Toh waise bhi pregnancy late hi honi thi. (First of all I will say late pregnancy because my marriage got delayed. I was 40 years old when I got married. So anyway, the pregnancy was bound to be late).”
She went on to share, “Uske baad ek-do saal hum log ne naturally try kiya kyuki hum ek gynaecologist ke paas gaye the and I said ki I am old toh… unhone kaha, ‘Nahi try naturally’, toh naturally nahi ho raha tha. (After a year or two we tried naturally because we went to a gynaecologist and I said I am too old… He said, ‘Don’t try naturally’, it was not happening naturally).”
After failed IVF twice, Farah recalled how Shah Rukh's annual family vacation changed things for her. She reminisced that every year, Shah Rukh Khan, who was headlining the projec, would take his family vacation to London around June and July. That routine one-and-a-half-month hiatus turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Farah. With filming on hold, she finally had time to rest and devote herself completely to her IVF journey. At 42, with just a few healthy eggs left, she approached the treatment with the belief that this would be her final attempt and the one that finally brought her success. She then became mom to triplets.
Farah also lauded husband Shirish Kunder for his support during these times.
