Sanjay Dutt played a villainous role in Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Panipat'. In the film, he wore a heavy fur coat and multiple rings and Afghani headwear to get into the character. He essayed the role of Ahmad Shah Abdali, the king of Afghanistan. It was the first time that the actor was playing a part in a historical period drama. Kancha Cheena in 'Agneepath'
This character changed the way Sanjay Dutt was seen as an actor in the industry. Agneepath's remade version starring Hrithik Roshan, Rishi Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra featured Sanjay as the villain. Sanjay went completely bald for his role and even got his ear pierced. His look made him an iconic villain.
