From Akshay Kumar to Anupam Kher: Here’s a list of Bollywood celebs who were real-life teachers before their Bollywood debut

Bollywood represents diversity where people from all spheres of life come together to give their best performances on-screen. Similarly, while some stars begin their acting journey right from their inception, a few made their way into the films after serving as a teacher in varied subjects. As today India celebrates its Teacher’s Day to mark the birth anniversary of India’s second president, Dr. Radhakrishnan, here’s a list of Bollywood stars who were real-life teachers before making their Bollywood. From Akshay Kumar to Anupam Kher to even Kader Khan, this is quite an unmissable list.

The action hero of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar is one of the interesting names as he was once a martial arts teacher in Mumbai. Although, he reportedly dropped out of school at a young age to learn the martial arts and even ventured abroad to hone his fighting skills, later Akki returned to India to begin training young minds. However, coincidentally one of his students happened to be an aspiring photographer who recommended Mr Khiladi to try modeling which eventually paved his way to films.

Actor-director Nandita Das is one of the known faces in feature films helmed by notable names like Mrinal Sen, Shyam Benegal, Mani Ratnam and more. However, this doesn’t stop here, the ‘Manto’director has a rich-past as a teacher. After finishing her master's degree from the Delhi School of Social Work, Das worked at Rishi Valley school while juggling theatre.

Veteran actor Chandrachur Singh who instantly gained fame after Filmfare winner ‘Maachis’ is one of the surprising names of this list. As a matter of fact, he was actually a music teacher in a school at Doon. However, his passion for acting landed him in Bollywood and he never went back.

Ace actor Anupam Kher who made it big in the film industry with his impeccable acting skills was one of the few celebs to channel their talent into teaching. For the unversed, he not only owns an acting school for aspirants but also serves as a teacher there. One of his acting school’s students is Deepika Padukone.

Legendary actor and comedian late Kader Khan had come a long way in his career as switched his profession from being a teacher to a full-time actor, filmmaker, director and writer. He was one of the notable lecturers at M.H Saboo Siddik College of Engineering, Byculla where his subject was civil engineering. Besides, reportedly, he was also a Hindi teacher in Dubai.
