The basketball court romance – 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'

The basketball games between Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Anjali (Kajol) were not merely sports scenes, but metaphors for unexpressed love and a relationship built on long-standing friendship. For many viewers, the college campus entered a particular time capsule representing a carefree youth, amused friendships, and the mixed feelings of realization too late.

2/7

The race to glory – 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar'

The culminating cycle race remains, to this day, one of the most passionate portrayals of ambivalence, ambition, and redemption in Bollywood's history. Aamir Khan's character Sanju, in all his carefree exuberance, fights for pride, friendship, and family honor. College sports became a theatrical presentation embodying life's critical lessons learned through strength and determination.

3/7

The leaf romance – 'Mohabbatein'

The film explored a conservative Gurukul college, creating a dichotomy of autocratic rules with young love and expression. Shah Rukh Khan's teacher with the violin, encouraged students to love on their own terms, while Amitabh Bachchan's principal was the gate to strict discourse and tradition. In this theatre of a college experience, love became an act of defiance and a fight for emotional freedom.

4/7

The cultural extravaganza – 'Main Hoon Na'

'Main Hoon Na' commemorated college life with festivals, musical performances and campus drama. It didn’t glorify academics as much as highlighting college as a melting pot of unity, diversity, and youthful drama. The movie celebrated having fun, patriotism, friendships, and everything else that made life larger than a classroom.

5/7

The stylish campus – 'Student of the Year'

Karan Johar put a more glamorous, fashionable, and larger-than-life spin on college life. His main characters were awash with the latest fashion trends, the campus was a posh social setting, and even the competitions were over-the-top, leaving modern Bollywood to shape our imagination of campus life as just a more glamorous playground full of love triangles, ambition and drama.

6/7

The hostel fun – 'Chhichhore'

This film resorted to depicting a college experience stripped of any glamor. It displayed the messy, raw, and emotional side of hostel life - the youthful arrogance that gets you into late-night prank wars, the anguish of failures, and most importantly, the memories built with friends that will last longer than any level of success or defeat. At its heart, the movie left audiences with the reminder that college isn’t just about winning - it’s about building sustainability, memories, and learning from disappointments.

7/7

The pursuit of dreams – '3 Idiots'

The trio of Raju (Sharman Joshi), Farhan (R. Madhavan), and Rancho (Aamir Khan) challenged the Indian education system through their unique experiences and defining college life in film. The funny but serious take on education revealed the intense pressure, fear, and concern regarding parents' expectations that prolong educational angst, as students do not maintain their own identities. The themes of friendship and individuality were key pillars of the creative process. Rancho's ultimate mantra, "All is well" transformed education and empowered students to follow their pursuits rather than societal conventions. During the engaging ebb and flow of comedy, emotion, and social commentary, 3 Idiots will forever remain the most influential college drama in Bollywood history.
