new delhi: concerned over elephants being killed "by the dozens" in assam, superstar madhuri dixit has asked the state government to mobilise its police force to arrest those who were "poisoning" the pachyderms and take steps to conserve the forests. in a letter to assam's forest minister g c langthasa, the bollywood star said she was saddened to learn that within 70 days, 31 elephants had been killed.
"please don't turn a blind eye to animal suffering. due to the mass destruction .... please stop this mass murder which is shocking the world by mobilising of police force to arrest those who are poisoning elephants," the gajagamini actress said. dixit is one of the celluloid stars who had few years back announced her dissociation with any film project where in animals were being ill-treated during shooting. dixit has lately also associated herself with people for ethical treatment of animals (peta) as an active volunteer, a spokesman of peta said in mumbai.
