Gauri Khan once spoke about Aryan Khan choosing his religion: 'Aryan will always say, ‘I am a Muslim''

In a world where celebrity relationships are often under the spotlight, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s interfaith marriage has stood strong for over three decades. But their journey wasn’t without its hurdles—especially early on, when differences in religion raised eyebrows. Now, an old clip from Koffee with Karan is resurfacing online, where Gauri candidly spoke about faith, her son Aryan’s religious identity, and the mutual respect that defines her marriage with Bollywood’s biggest star.

Gauri appeared alongside Sussanne Khan and spoke candidly about religion in her family. Gauri revealed that her son Aryan has always strongly identified with Shah Rukh Khan’s faith, saying, “Aryan is so into Shah Rukh, that he would follow his religion... He always says, ‘I am a Muslim.’” She added that this would often leave her mother surprised and unsure how to respond, but acknowledged that it’s simply the reality they’ve embraced as a family.



Gauri went on to emphasise the importance of mutual respect in their interfaith marriage. She said there’s a clear balance in their home—while she deeply respects Shah Rukh Khan’s religion, she never felt the need to convert. “Everybody is an individual and follows their own religion,” she said, adding that Shah Rukh, too, has always shown equal respect for her beliefs.




A few years ago, during his appearance on Dance Plus 5, Shah Rukh shared a heartfelt anecdote about how he and Gauri Khan have approached religion in their family. He recalled how they’ve never made religion a dividing line—despite him being Muslim and Gauri being Hindu. Instead, they’ve raised their children with a sense of national identity. He recounted a moment when his daughter once asked about their religion for a school form. His response was simple yet powerful: “We are Indian. We don’t have a religion.”

SRK and Gauri, who tied the knot on October 25, 1991, are proud parents to Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam.
Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in the action-thriller King, where he stars alongside his daughter Suhana Khan. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh and produced by Siddharth Anand and Red Chillies Entertainment, the film marks Suhana’s big-screen debut.

Meanwhile, Aryan Khan, is set to make his directorial debut with a Netflix series titled The Bads of Bollywood. He has also written the series and is working as the showrunner. The show is expected to release in June 2025. SRK was last seen in 'Dunki'.
