Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai & Bandar Movie Review and Release Live Updates: Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, Pooja Hegde's film clashes with Bobby Deol starrer at the box office
'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' is a Hindi-language romantic comedy directed by veteran filmmaker David Dhawan and produced by Ramesh Taurani. The film stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles, bringing together a fresh and energetic trio at the centre of the story. Supporting them is an ensemble cast featuring Mouni Roy, Maniesh Paul, Manoj Pahwa, Jimmy Shergill, Rakesh Bedi, and Kubbra Sait, each contributing to the film's comic and emotional narrative.
The film, which premiered in cinemas on June 5, 2026, signifies a significant milestone in Bollywood, as it represents David Dhawan's last directorial project before his retirement from filmmaking. Known for delivering some of Hindi cinema's most beloved comedy entertainers, Dhawan bids farewell with a film that blends romance, humour, family drama, and his trademark mass appeal.
Even before its release, 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' found itself at the centre of industry discussions due to a legal dispute between Pooja Films and the makers of the film. The controversy revolves around the use of the iconic songs 'Chunnari Chunnari' and 'Ishq Sona Hai' from the 1999 blockbuster 'Biwi No. 1', with questions being raised over intellectual property rights and the film's title, which is derived from the popular track.
Combining nostalgia with contemporary storytelling, 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' arrives as a light-hearted entertainer and a celebratory farewell to one of Bollywood's most successful directors.

'Bandar' release put on hold?
As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, "The makers of 'Bandar' planned for an audience-oriented release, requesting only 4 shows in 5-screen multiplexes and 3 shows in 4-screen plexes post 1 pm, which seems a fair and doable ask. But since PVR Inox and Cinepolis are distributing 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' and PVR is partly distributing 'Peddi' for Jio Studios, the national chains have allotted unfair shows to 'Bandar'."

Anupam Kher scolds David Dhawan for announcing his retirement
In an interview with ANI, Anupam Kher revealed he scolded David Dhawan for announcing his retirement. He said, "David Dhawan is my best friend. I go to his house whenever I can. When I learnt about his retirement decision, I called him and scolded him. Maine daanta use (I scolded him). I said, 'What do you mean, this is your last film? Who are you to decide, this is your last film? If the audience loves you, don't say, this is my last film.' My father used to tell me that retirement is merely a state of mind. As long as you can stand on your own feet and keep doing what you love, there's no reason to retire. Unfortunately, he later fell ill, but that belief has stayed with me. We are fortunate to be in a profession where there is no fixed age for retirement."
