Hansal Mehta: Satish Kaushik and I were supposed to do a film together

Actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik passed on Wednesday in Delhi. He was 66. Kaushik started his career with theatre and went on to act in Hindi cinema. He also directed a number of films. He was much loved for his character called ‘Calendar’ in Mr India and was appreciated for his comic timing the most which also won him many awards.

The actor took to web series in the latter stage of his career and his role in Hansal Mehta’s Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta story (2020) was particularly startling. Known for his comic timing and funny roles, he was seen as a shrewd businessman who swore at the drop of a hat.

Mourning his loss, Hansal Mehta told Bombay Times, “We worked together in Chhalaang and Scam 1992. We were supposed to do a film called ‘Death of a Director’ together. It was to be a showcase of his untapped potential as an actor. Unfortunately the title is now a reality. He was always lovely, encouraging and a genuine friend. He did Scam for nothing. When I called him for the part he said ‘tu bataa na… tere liye ped bhi ban jaunga’. Such was the man’s love, spirit and passion. Such a devastating loss.”
