Farhan Akhtar and
Ritesh Sidhwani have produced a drama series on drugs and it’s getting a strong reaction from Hollywood producers of a similar series, based on drug cartels.
The thrilling and gripping crime drama stars an ensemble cast of
Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Divyendu Sharma, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, and
Amit Sial. It is based in the badlands of India and the story deals with drug lords of Purvanchal, Mirzapur.
Nevertheless, the makers of a similar series from Hollywood, featuring actor Michael Peña and based on real-life kingpin Pablo Escobar, are worried about the all-too-familiar content in the Indian series. So much so, that the makers of the Hollywood series are concerned about Farhan and Ritesh’s series affecting the run of their show in India.
With heart-pounding action, violence at an operatic scale, gangsters with sharp minds and dry humor, the Indian series is raw and gritty.
