Ambassadors from different regional cinemas were included in the delegation, sending the signal to the world that India – which boasts of 25 regional film industries – has many different flavours and styles to offer in terms of film production. This year, cinema from the south was in spotlight. Actress Virginie Efira served as Master of Ceremony and host of the 75th edition and welcomed on the stage of the Palis des Festivals' Grand Théätre Lumière the Jury, including Deepika Padukone. Michel Hazanavicius's Final Cut was the opening film of the festival which will be theatrically released in France on that same day. In a first, India is the official Country of Honour for the Cannes Marché du Film (Film Market), at the Cannes Film Festival, which will continue till May 25 this year. This is the first time that the market has an official Country Of Honour and is expected to continue this tradition during its future editions. Satyajit Ray's centenary celebrations will also be continued at Cannes with a restored classic directed by the filmmaker – Pratidwandi – scheduled to be screened at the Cannes Classic section Cinéma de la plage.
