Ever since he became a recognisable face post the release of Vikramaditya Motwane’s “Udaan”, Rajat Barmecha has never stepped out of his Yojna Vihar home whenever he comes to Delhi. But when the 22-year-old actor came to the capital this weekend, all he did was party and explore the city with his friend Manjot (who played the younger Abhay Deol in “Oye Lucky Lucky Oye” and was also there with Rajat in “Udaan”).
After all, his parents were not at home, and “I had to have food outside since they were not there, so I ended up heading out every day with my friends,” says Rajat.
His trip was planned at the last moment, since the editor of the movie “Udaan”, Deepika Kalra, was getting married in Delhi. He says, “We had to come for her wedding, and the whole gang was supposed to come. But Vikram and Ishika have gone to the US, so they couldn’t come. Vikram’s mother, who was the executive producer for “Udaan”, came for the wedding.”
After the wedding, Rajat says he wasted no time in exploring the city, as much as he could. He tells us, “There’s a Hanuman ji ka mandir in Vivek Vihar, and a Sai Baba mandir in Yojna Vihar that I always visit when I am here.” After he finished with his religious visits, it was three days of nonstop fun, says Rajat, adding, “Manjot would come to my place every morning and we’d head out.”
But while exploring Delhi, Rajat had a “strange experience”. He says, “We went to a mall in Saket on Sunday. There were a lot of people there and they asked me for pictures and autographs. But the thing is, only 20% come up to you, and the rest 80% stare or they keep following you – that’s really weird. But I guess it’s part of an actor’s life. But, it was great fun returning to my own city, even though briefly.”
