'Jai Santoshi Maa' producer Dada Satram Rohra passes away at 85
Veteran singer and producer Dada Satram Rohra, famed for producing the iconic hit Jai Santoshi Maa, has passed away at the age of 85. He died on July 18, as confirmed by an official statement. Rohra was a prominent figure in the Sindhi community, recognized for his contributions as both a producer and a singer.
Radio Sindhi's Instagram page announced the news, highlighting that the veteran was uniquely able to persuade Lata Mangeshkar to sing a Sindhi song.
The official note on Instagram read, “We are deeply saddened to share that the Famous Singer & Film Producer Dada Satram Rohra passed away on 18th July, 2024. May almighty rest his noble soul in peace and give strength to his family in this difficult time. Dada Satram Rohra gave so many superhit songs along with famous singers like Dada Ram Panjwani, Bhagwanti Navani, Kamla Keswani and many more."
Further, they added, "He produced the blockbuster Sindhi movie “Hal Ta Bhaji Haloon” and Hindi Movie “Jai Santoshi Maa”. He is the only one who could convince Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar to sing a Sindhi song. Dada Satram Rohra’s demise is a great loss for the Sindhi Community and the void can not be filled by anyone.”
Born into a Sindhi family on June 16, 1939, Satram Rohra gained prominence as a producer and singer. His debut production was the 1966 film Shera Daku, followed by Rocky Mera Naam in 1973. He is best known for producing the blockbuster Jai Santoshi Maa. Rohra also produced notable films like Nawab Sahib, Ghar Ki Laj, Karan, and Jai Kaali, featuring stars such as Jeetendra and Hema Malini.
In addition to his work as a film producer, Satram Rohra was also a singer. He performed several Sindhi songs, including Jhulelal, Hal Ta Bhaji Halu, Shal Dhyar Na Jaman, and Ladli, among others.
