Jaideep Ahlawat confirms he turned down Vibhishana's role in Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana due to clash with Yash’s schedule: 'Raavan ki dates mujh se zyada important hogi'
Jaideep Ahlawat has confirmed that he was indeed approached for a role in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama. The Paatal Lok actor revealed in a recent interview that he was offered the role of Vibhishana, Raavana’s righteous brother, but had to let go of the opportunity due to scheduling conflicts.
In an interview with The Lallantop, Jaideep shared that the role required him to shoot scenes with the actor playing Raavana, and the team was working with a tight and specific window of dates. “Offer hua tha. Par timing match nahi ho rahi thi,” he said, explaining that the coordination required between Vibhishana and Raavana’s parts was crucial.
Jaideep added, “I think Yash kar rahe hain, KGF waale.” He also mentioned that Raavana’s schedule was likely prioritised, indicating that the team had to move ahead without him. “I’m sure Raavan ki dates mujh se zyada important hogi,” he said.
A stellar ensemble brings Ramayana to life
Helmed by Dangal and Chhichhore director Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being crafted as a two-part epic. The cast features some of the biggest names in Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi essays the role of Sita, and Yash, best known for his KGF franchise, takes on the powerful role of Raavana.
Sunny Deol will be seen as Hanuman, while Ravi Dubey steps into the role of Lakshman. Lara Dutta has been cast as Kaikeyi, and Rakul Preet Singh is set to portray the fiery Shurpanakha. Kajal Aggarwal rounds out the cast as Mandodari, the queen of Lanka.
With a planned release in two parts, one in 2026 and the other in 2027, Ramayana is being developed on a massive scale and has already generated immense buzz for its casting, scale, and faithfulness to the epic narrative.
Jaideep added, “I think Yash kar rahe hain, KGF waale.” He also mentioned that Raavana’s schedule was likely prioritised, indicating that the team had to move ahead without him. “I’m sure Raavan ki dates mujh se zyada important hogi,” he said.
