John Abraham's 'Satyameva Jayate 2' to Kangana Ranaut's 'Tejas' - Upcoming patriotic films

Trust Bollywood with being patriotic and a slew of films will cross our thoughts. The film industry has always been open to project Indian soldiers and freedom fighters as heroes. The actors have never shied away to show the real-life stars’ heroic deeds on the big screen, be it through fighting in a war or by serving the nation by being a soldier or raising a voice for freedom. From John Abraham’s ‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ to Kangana Ranaut-starrer ‘Tejas’, this Republic Day we bring to you a few patriotic films that Bollywood plan to entertain with in near future.

'Satyameva Jayate 2'

As the title suggests, John Abraham-starrer ‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ is a film depicting the fight against injustice and misuse of power. This patriotic flick is a sequel to the 2018 hit ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and stars Divya Khosla Kumar as the lead actress opposite John. The shooting of the film commenced in Lucknow in October last year after the lockdown was gradually eased. The makers are expected to call it a wrap anytime now after shooting for a few days in a Mumbai studio. Slated to release during the festive time of Eid in May this year, ‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ is directed by Milap Zaveri.

Sardar Udham Singh

Sardar Udham Singh is a biopic on the freedom fighter Udham Singh who was known to assassinate Michael O’Dwyer in 1940. History has it that Michael O’Dwyer was infamous for the heinous Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 in which over 300 Indians were killed. Vicky Kaushal will play the revolutionary freedom fighter Udham Singh, out on a revenge, under the direction of Shoojit Sircar. Since the film was announced in the first quarter of 2019 and the shoot began immediately, ‘Sardar Udham Singh’ is complete and is in post-production stage. The flick is expected to hit the theatres soon.

Tejas

‘Tejas’ will see Kangana Ranaut donning the Indian Air Force (IAF) uniform as she plays fighter pilot in the movie. Kangana Tweeted a video when the team started prepping to fly high and said, “Today team #Tejas started workshops, very pleased to start work with super talented director Sarvesh Mewara @sarveshmewara1 and our coach Wing Commander Abhijeet Gokhale.” Sarvesh is also the writer of the film while Ronnie Screwvala is producing this drama, said to revolve around real-life heroes. Kangana had to reportedly train for months together to play the fighter pilot. If all goes well then ‘Tejas’ will land in theatres in April 2021.

Shershaah

Starring Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani and Jaaved Jaaferi among others, ‘Shershaah’ is a massive war film produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Sidharth plays army captain and Param Vir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra and also doubles up as his twin brother Vishal Batra. Kiara portrays Vikram’s fiancé Dimple Cheema whereas Jaaved will be seen as Major Ashraf Ali in this action-packed flick. A well-known name in the Tamil film industry, Vishnuvardhan, has debuted as Bollywood director with ‘Shershaah’ and has completed the shooting of the film. The coronavirus pandemic delayed the movie as was to release in July last year.
