Kabir Bedi opens up about the heartbreaking loss of his son Siddharth to schizophrenia

Kabir Bedi, the renowned actor, recently shared the tragic loss of his son Siddharth, who struggled with schizophrenia for years. Speaking to 'Digital Commentary', Bedi remembered the tragic journey of his son as an exceptionally brilliant boy. He said, “Mere bete Siddharth ki tragedy yeh thi ki woh bahut hi brilliant ladka tha. America ke sabse important information technology mein daakhil hue, aur phir unko schizophrenia diagnose kiya gaya (The tragedy of my son Siddharth was that he was an exceptionally brilliant boy. He got admitted to one of the most prestigious information technology programs in America, and then he was diagnosed with schizophrenia).The pain of seeing that such a young mind is decaying to become a shell, though there lies so much in the way of potential within his heart, is what is really bringing such terrible anguish for Bedi.


In an emotional narration Kabir Bedi talked candidly and how, while writing about his memoir he had chronicled this part of life. He quoted, "Yeh chapter ho maine likha hai apni kitaab mein about the final months of Siddharth, ek story hai ek baap apne bete ko suicide karne se kaise rok raha hai. Ab aap sochne ki koshish kariye kya beeti hogi mujhmein (I have written a chapter in my book about the final months of Siddharth. It is a story of a father trying to stop his son from taking his own life. Now, try to imagine what I must have gone through)."These words are in fact a reflection of how hard it is for a father, who cannot save his own child from his inner demons; he desperately tries to protect him from ending his own life.

The actor further elaborated the agonizing pain of feeling helpless despite his great efforts."Aur ant mein main yeh jung jeet nahi saka, aur yeh meri zindagi ki shayad sabse badi tragedy hai (And in the end, I could not win this battle, and this is perhaps the greatest tragedy of my life)."Bedi said. His words conveyed the immense emotional toll that the experience took on him, as he had to face the heartbreaking reality of not being able to save Siddharth from the illness that eventually took him away.

The fact that Kabir Bedi is so candid about the tragedy speaks of the deep sorrow he is experiencing and the struggles most families have to go through with mental health issues. His experience shows the harsh reality of mental illness, especially when it affects someone as young and full of promise as him. His poignant account also reminds us of how much awareness there needs to be in terms of mental health and empathy that is required for people going through the same things.
