Kajol opens up about parents Tanuja and Shomu Mukherjee's separation: ‘They did the right things for their children’

Actress Kajol recently spoke about her parents’ separation and how it affected her childhood. She shared how her parents—veteran actress Tanuja and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee—were clear about their decision to part ways and handled it with grace.

In a candid interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, Kajol revealed that her parents never let the separation affect their roles as parents. The duo were clear about co-parenting their children and gave importance to the emotional well-being of their daughters.

“I have to give kudos to them. My parents were very clear on one point—that it does not matter whether we are separated or not, we will always be there together for you. The decisions we take for you will always be made together,” she stated.

Kajol noted that she and her sister, Tanisha, never had to take sides due to the consistency her parents maintained in their relationship, even after the separation. “They were adults who behaved like mature people and did the right things for their children,” she added.

The 'Do Patti' actress also reflected on whether the separation made sense to her at the time. Although initially sceptical, she later came to understand the reasons behind such a significant decision. “As an adult today, I can take that call and understand how brave it was for both of them to make that decision,” she mentioned.

Kajol's upcoming movies

Kajol is currently busy promoting her upcoming film Maa, a mythological horror directed by Vishal Furia, which is set to release in cinemas on June 27.

She is also set to appear in 'Maharagni – Queen of Queens', an action thriller directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati. The film features an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Prabhu Deva, Jisshu Sengupta, Aditya Seal, and Pramod Pathak.

Kajol plays a key role in 'Sarzameen', alongside Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. She will also return for Season 2 of her legal drama series The Trial.
