Kajol's 'Bekhudi' co-star Kamal Sadanah recalls seeing his family being killed in front of his eyes: 'There’s a reason why I survived it'

Kamal Sadanah embarked on his cinematic journey with the 1992 film 'Bekhudi,' starring alongside Kajol. However, before stepping into the spotlight as a mainstream hero, tragedy struck his life. In a recent interview, Kamal bravely discussed the devastating incident when his father, producer Brij Sadanah, tragically took the lives of his entire family before ending his own.

Kamal's father, mother, and sister perished, and he himself sustained a gunshot wound to the neck but managed to survive. Reflecting on the harrowing experience, the actor expressed enduring significant mental anguish witnessing the tragic loss of his family firsthand.



Speaking with Siddharth Kannan, Kamal recounted his miraculous survival, revealing that a bullet had pierced through his neck, exiting from the other side. He emphasized the inexplicable nature of his survival, expressing a determination to uncover the purpose behind it and to lead a fulfilling life moving forward.




Kamal revealed that his father, inebriated, committed the tragic act on Kamal's birthday. Despite the horrific incident, he emphasized that it didn't define his family's character entirely. Kamal recounted the chaos of that day, carrying his injured mother and sister to the hospital while unaware of his own gunshot wound. He prioritized their treatment, instructing the doctor to focus on his mother and sister's care.

Kamal revealed undergoing surgery due to his own gunshot wound, as doctors needed to treat his injury. Upon waking up, he returned home only to witness the devastating sight of his deceased family. Initially, he refrained from celebrating his birthday for many years. However, a few years ago, he hosted a party, though he still harbors reluctance towards celebrating. Nevertheless, his friends continue to support him by showing up on his birthday to lift his spirits.



Kamal shared that he still resides in the same house where the tragedy occurred, acknowledging that he's not alone in experiencing such hardship. He reflected on the universality of tragedy, recognizing that many others have also faced their own challenges and sorrows.

Kamal continues to appear in films, often in supporting roles. His recent portrayal of Sam Manekshaw in 'Pippa' showcases his versatility and ongoing presence in the industry.
