KL Rahul reveals the sweet gesture for his and Athiya Shetty's daughter Evaarah

For a while cricket fans and commentators debated what KL Rahul’s now-viral “whistle celebration” actually meant. Was it a cheeky nod to fans? A spontaneous quirk? As it turns out, it was none of the above and the real story is far more heartwarming.

Speaking on the 2 Sloggers YouTube show, Rahul finally shared the context of his actions, he said , " “It’s not a whistle celebration. My daughter does this,” he said with a smile. He went on to share the inspiration behind it: “Babies usually suck their thumbs, but she( Evaarah) sucks her fingers, so it was for her.”


The daughter in question is Evaarah, born to Rahul and actor Athiya Shetty in early 2024. While both parents have kept their daughter largely away from the public spotlight, Rahul’s subtle on-field tribute became an unintentional puzzle for cricket enthusiasts — and a reminder of how fatherhood has quietly reshaped the cricketer’s world.

Off the field, Rahul has also begun embracing the lighter side of social media. Earlier this week, he joined the social media trned that involved his borther in law Ahan Shetty whose recently released ensemble war film Border 2 has clocked in Rs 30 crore on day 1. In a playful post, Rahul wrote that if Ahan comments on his video, he will “watch Border 2 twice.” The comment arrived swiftly, sparking friendly teasing across fandoms and adding to the pre-release buzz around the film. The post got almost 2.8 million likes on Instagram.

Border 2 is looking to captilize on the upcoming Republic Day weekend.
